We thought we’d take a break from our regular Palmetto Moon tidbits to bring you a few tips on hurricane preparedness. Even though it looks like Irene is going to head past all of us in South Carolina, we hope our friends up the coast are just as prepared for a more severe storm. Throughout our storm tracking and weather research this week, here are some important pieces of advice we’ve picked up – for hurricanes and any other severe storms:
- Have a plan. If a storm hits, do you know where you’ll go? Make sure your friends and neighbors also know how they can reach you if necessary.
- Have an out of state contact. If for some reason you were to get separated, pick someone out of state that everyone can reach – just in case.
- Protect your pets. Make sure they are included in your planning process.
- Stock up on non-perishable items. Bottled water is essential! Don’t forget a disaster supply kit as well.
